Hey, great video and instructions! One question--you rough-fleshed the pelt before salting, but you also mentioned that you flesh again after pickling. Is that *immediately* after pickling? Or do you do the rinse the pelt before re-fleshing? Or do you rinse, neutralize and then re-flesh? Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteThe first fleshing ("rough" fleshing) of the skin needs to be done well to remove the fat and membranes to better accept the pickle. So, rough flesh the skin, liberally apply salt and let it drain, The salt helps drain the fluids so the pickle can be absorbed well. You can rinse the salt off or not, then, put into your pickle. After it's done pickling, put in neutralizer. Rinse skin well. Do final fleshing. Then, apply the tanning agent. Is that clearer? Let me know, if not. Thanks for your comments. - Rick
