On pickling the hide, you used safety pickling acid. I do not have pickling acid, I only have citric acid. Do I need both citric and muriatic acid to make it work or just one or the other?
ReplyDeleteWesley:
ReplyDeleteOne or the other. Citric is safer for the environment than muratic however.

i recently bought a deer hide with the fur on it for my nephew. the fur on the hide is falling out. what can i do to protect the remaining hair from falling out. thank you
ReplyDeleteNeah, it's really important for me to know if it is a 1) tanned, 2) raw or a 3) dry hide in order to properly answer your question. A tanned hide would be soft. The raw hide would be a fresh hide, or had been in the freezer, etc. A dry hide would be one that was previously salted and allowed to air dry. Let me know as soon as possible which would apply to your hide. My advice would be completely different for each one. Time is of the essence in some cases also, so reply as soon as you can. I'll check for your reply frequently. Thank you. - Rick
