I have just shot my first deer, a 9 point buck. The base of the one antlers got shot...oops. How would you reccomend fixing it. I would like to repair it so i can mount the antlers. Would JB Stik work, im not sure if your fimilair with the stuff?

ReplyDeleteContratulations on your buck! That's a nice size for your first one.
JB Weld might work. Just remember to get wire inside the antler and paint to match the other side.
You say it was damaged at the base, how bad? Do you still have the pieces? If so, you could still do it the way I detailed in this video. Depending on how damaged it is, you may have to reconstruct the base and that's definitely do-able. Let me know how it goes, or if you have any questions I could help you with. Thanks. - Rick

ReplyDeleteOops. Sorry about the typo of "Congratulations"... Rick
hey, its Kevin again, I was scrolling through the sight and saw these videos, I was just wondering with you could use Dura bond for this. have you done any European mounts, I've done two of my own and right now one for a friend, I use hydrogen peroxide to whiten the skulls, but people tell me to use bleach(I read in other sights that it eats away at the skull) I was just wondering if that's true and which would be better, thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin.
ReplyDeleteI can't answer the question on Durabond. Don't know what it is. Sorry.
Continue using hydrogen peroxide. That's what I use for the European Mounts. Do not use bleach. It does eat away at the bone.
I had my European Mount videos on the sites, but, had to take them down.
Good questions. Thanks. - Rick
