Do you tan the skin of a bird before mounting it or what?
ReplyDeleteAfter you flesh, wash, dry feathers, put Borax on the flesh side and then mount. - Rick
ReplyDeleteHey, I have enjoyed your videos so much. I am mounting a hooded merganser and I can't figure out how to get the feathers on the top of his head to stand up in a comb, they always want to just lay down flat. Do you know of any secrets that my help me with this. Thanks

Greg:
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good words.
A Merganser with a comb on it has to be blow dried from the back to the front. You have to do this several days in a row. Pretty soon, you'll see it standing up. Or, you can hang it upside down and the feathers will naturally puff up. You still have to blow dry it either way. This should do it. It's how I do it. Thanks again. - Rick
