Hey Rick I have just gotten interested in taxidermy and can't wait to get started. I was wandering what you would suggest as a good first project? I wold like to shoulder mount a whitetail but thought it might be better to start on something smaller like a squirrell. What do you think?

A squirrel is a great project to start on. They are easy to do. Make sure you measure the tip of the nose to base of tail, the circumference, inside corner of eye to tip of nose. You can order this form through any major taxidermy supplier. Use hollow black eyes about 10mm. Slot the lips so you can tuck the lips in. Dorsal cut the squirrel from back of neck to base of tail to skin out. Lot less sewing. Use Borax as a preservative on that project. It should turn out nice. Pay attention to eye detail. Make sure they aren't bulging. Set them back with a little clay. Use 1/4" stitches on the back. Don't worry about glue on this project. Skin the feet all the way down to the toes. That should do it. Thanks. Rick
